2022 Betting Odds And What ‘The Game’ Means In Battle Of Unbeatens

The big game has arrived. Michigan and Ohio State will settle the score on Saturday in Columbus. The 118th meeting is the first time since 2006 that both teams have met in ‘The Game’ with matching 11-0 records.

The winner is crowned Big Ten East champion and advances to next weekends Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis and essentially guaranteed a final four spot in the College Football Playoff. The loser still has a good chance to make the CFP with Ohio State likely in regardless of Saturday’s outcome.

Ohio State opened an 8-point favorite versus Michigan Sunday at Circa Las Vegas. The Buckeye’s are now a 7.5 point favorite across the board at leading online sportsbooks in the U.S. The game total is 57.5 points.

Kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 26 is at 12:00 p.m. ET and televised on FOX with 105,000 fans at Ohio Stadium.

Michigan and Ohio State are the only two FBS teams in the country with top-10 rankings in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The Wolverines rank second defensively (11.7 points per game) and ninth offensively (39.4 points per game). The Buckeyes rank second offensively (46.5 points per game) and 10th defensively (16.9 points per game).

Ahead of The Game, both head coaches talked about their teams.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh: “We’ve got a great group of players who are happy warriors and they are on a happy mission. It’s a tight-knit team that has paid the price, and taken on every challenge. They’ve been ready to play every game for 60 minutes and attacked the challenges. I love this team.”

Ohio State is 12-0 since losing to Michigan last year.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day: “We’ve focused on this game all offseason. During the season in our preparations it’s always been in the back of our minds. We’re more experienced and the players were highly motivated to get back to where we are a year later. Now all the chips go in.”

In 2006, No. 1 Ohio State prevailed over No. 2 Michigan 42-39 in an instant classic. Buckeye’s QB Troy Smith sealed his Heisman Trophy campaign in victory. Michigan RB Mike Hart had three TD’s in defeat and ended up fifth in the Heisman voting.

Types of bets and how to read the odds.

Michigan won last year’s rivalry 42-27 also as a 7.5-point underdog. The 2022 showdown features two leading Heisman contenders with Buckeye’s QB CJ Stroud of Ohio State (+110) a favorite and Michigan RB Blake Corum (+2000) third in the Heisman odds behind USC QB Caleb Williams (-130), who passed Stroud as the betting favorite this week.

Biggest Rivalry Weekend

While college football odds on the biggest rivalry weekend are headlined by Michigan at Ohio State in ‘The Game’, many other rivalry games over Thanksgiving weekend draw major viewing attention and wagering action. These rivalry games are the most exciting and meaningful games of the season to the players, coaches and fan bases. They bring out the greatest emotions, energy and effort.

That includes Thanksgiving Day in the Egg Bowl between Mississippi State and Ole Miss. These comments from Mississippi State QB Will Rodgers resonate and show the emotional effect these rivalry games have on the players.

“I don’t think you fully understand unless you’re from here or are a part of the game,” SEC leading passer Will Rogers said. “This is the game that everybody thinks about every year. It doesn’t matter where we play it or who is ranked higher or what the records are. It’s the biggest game of the year, every year.”

Michigan and Ohio State players, coaches and fans agree.

You can bet on it.
