40 years ago, there was a time when the world for Amitabh Bachchan fans came to a standstill. The megastar was shooting for the very successful producer/director Manmohan Desai’s ‘Coolie‘ in Bangalore, and on July 26, 1982, while filming a fight sequence, a mistimed punch by the newcomer Puneet Issar ruptured Big B’s intestine, which almost killed him. He got seriously injured and was rushed to a hospital in Bangalore. Later, he was flown to Mumbai and admitted to Breach Candy Hospital. While recalling the incident, Amitabh once revealed that he went into a ‘haze and coma-like situation’ and was ‘clinically dead for a couple of minutes.’ But the nation’s prayers worked, and their favorite star not only revived but went on to complete the remaining shoot of the film.
