Covid: Just over a lakh out of 66 lakh eligible people in 18-44 age group have taken third shot | India News

Hospitals say though 18-59 years is a large cohort and opening up of the booster dose for this segment was seen as a major positive decision, the demand has been subdued.
“It could be a sum of both complacency and ignorance. Since a majority have been double-vaccinated and with fewer Covid cases, many in this age group are complacent to take time out and go to a vaccination centre.
There is another group which feels that all is well, not aware that vaccination protects against severe hospitalisation and death,” says Dr Bishnu Pangrahi, Group Head, Medical Strategy and Operations at Fortis Healthcare.
According to data, only around 3.65 lakh people in the 45-59 years age band have received the booster dose, against over 3.55 crore people due for it till April 26. Similarly, just over a lakh of people of between 18-44 years have got the third dose, against nearly 66 lakh people.
