Hilton adds ability to share Digital Key with travel companions – Business Traveller

Hilton has announced a number of technology enhancements, including a new Digital Key Share service allowing more than one guest to have access to their room’s Digital Key.

Hilton launched its Digital Key technology back in 2015, which enables guests to use the Hilton Honors app on their mobile phone as a room key.

The group says Digital Key is now available at around 5,400 of its 6,600+ properties worldwide, with the technology having been used to open more than 135 million guest room doors.

The Digital Key Share option will allow the primary guest to share their active Digital Key with up to four people via the Hilton Honors app, with the secondary guest receiving an invitation and going through a security check “that happens instantly in the background”. The secondary guest will not be able to further share the key.

Hilton said that the share option will roll out to all hotels currently offering Digital Key technology “in the coming months”.

Meanwhile Hilton is also enhancing its complimentary room upgrade benefit for elite Hilton Honors members.

The group said it would now notify Gold and Diamond members of their upgrade 72 hours prior to arrival “where possible”, enabling eligible guests to choose the location of their upgraded room through the Hilton Honors app, where Digital Check-In is offered.

All stays under seven nights will be eligible for the early confirmation, and it will be made available at all Hilton brands where space-available upgrades are offered.
