The fear of being homeless soon is weighing them down. For people living in Lambi Cement Chawl, the anxiety over their eviction comes after a BMC notice that has listed this chawl among the city’s most dangerous and dilapidated buildings that need to be vacated ahead of the monsoon. In all, BMC has listed 337 buildings in its C-1 category which are in an extremely dangerous and dilapidated condition and include 70 buildings in the city, 104 buildings in the eastern suburbs and 163 buildings in the western suburbs. Residents of Lambi Cement Chawl have decided to defy the notice saying they will not leave the chawl that has been their home for generations.
