The Tamil Nadu government has decided to reconstitute the state tourism advisory, which will now include more representation of travel trade and other stakeholders such as tour guides and transport operators of the industry. The state government, in an official statement, informed that it has issued orders to rechristen the Tamil Nadu Tourism Advisory Committee to Tamil Nadu Tourism Promotion and Development Committee.
The purpose of the new committee is to advise the government on the development of tourist destinations, encourage various segments in tourism, improve inter-departmental coordination, encourage the participation of the private sector and also create tourism awareness. Members of the committee will serve on the board for a tenure of two years.
Office-bearers of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI); Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO); Tamil Nadu Travel Mart (TTM); South Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA); Tamil Nadu Tour, Travel and Hospitality Association; South India MICE Association, Tourist Bus Operator Association, Approved Tour Guides Association and Air Passengers Association of India, would be its non-official members, stated the notification.
