Veuve Clicquot Celebrates 250 Years Of Distinguished Champagne

Champagne Veuve Clicquot commemorates 250 years in business in 2022, and as you might imagine with this world famous Reims-based house, the celebration will be something truly memorable. Memorable as in a train ride on the Venice-Simplon-Orient Express.

Founded in 1772, the Reims-based house was managed by Madame Clicquot after her husband’s passing in 1805. Thus at the age of 27, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin – the widow Clicquot – took on the daunting task of managing a Champagne house, and in so doing, became one of the first businesswomen of modern times. Over her more than fifty year tenure, she forged Clicquot into one of the most successful and well-loved of all Champagne houses, and set a path for future opportunities for women in the industry.

The most famous cuvées from Veuve Clicquot today are the famous “yellow label” non-vintage Brut, along with their prestige cuvées, La Grand Dame and La Grand Dame Rosé. The company has decided to focus on the yellow color of the label of their non-vintage Brut for this anniversary promotion; the theme is “journey around the sun.” Print ads will feature bright yellow objects worn or carried by various individuals, with the slogan “Good Day Sunshine.” As you can see from the advertising images on this page, it’s a bright, fun and lively campaign, one that perfectly suits the joy one feels when enjoying a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne.

About that special train ride. the two night journey follows the shipping route of the Champagne’s first bottles, ending with a night’s stay in Venice at Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice. On board, guests will toast the train’s esteemed relationship with Veuve Clicquot and will enjoy pairing menus by friend of Veuve Clicquot, chef Jean Imbert.

Starting with Sunrise in Reims, guests will be invited for an immersive lunch and to sample the Maison’s cuvées in the Veuve Clicquot Crayeres with cellar master Didier Mariotti before boarding the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

Once on board, and settled into their twin cabins, guests are invited to step into the mystery and dress in their finery for a four course pairing dinner by pioneering chef Jean Imbert. The world of Veuve Clicquot will be brought alive on board with a celebration long into the night in Bar Car ‘3674’.

The next morning, as the train passes through the Alps, guests will watch the sunrise from their cabins or step off to bask in the light at Innsbruck station. Upon arrival in Venice, guests journey by boat to Hotel Cipriani, on Giudecca Island, for a magical night’s stay. The hotel will play host to the finale of the journey, the ‘sunset’ Ball.

While I personally will not be on this train ride, I will be enjoying several bottles of various Veuve Clicquot cuvées throughout the year.
